No they don’t sell fruits. Instead, AdaFruits is an online marketplace to learn all things electronics and making the best designed products for makers of all ages and skill levels. Founded by MIT engineer Limor ‘Ladyada’ Fried in 2005, AdaFruits’s is a 50 employee strong company with a 15,000 square foot factory at the heart of NYC. Adafruit offers tools, equipment and electronics personally selected, tested and approved by Limor before being sent to Adafruit’s stores. Being the first female engineer to appear on the cover of WIRED magazine, Limor was also recently awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year by WIRED. She is also the NYC’s Industrial Business Advisory Council and ranked #11 in the top 20 of manufacturing companies in the USA and #1 in New York City. Adafruit stocks boards, LCD and displays, prototyping equipment, wearables, neo pixels, kits and projects, LEDs, power cables, tools, robotics and CNCs, accessories, components and parts as well as sensors, wire, tape, paneling, books and software.
