Flipkart is India's largest e-commerce retailer with 22 million members and is based in bangalore, India. Flipkart was created by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, two former employees of amazon. The company started out mainly selling books and later began selling other product categories, such as consumer electronics and fashion products. Flipkart, which dreams of becoming India's equivalent of alibaba, dominates India's e-commerce market. Facing a competitive market environment, however, Flipkart is struggling to compete with two other e-commerce giants, Snapdeal and amazon, and is expanding its business to fend off competition. As of 2017, Flipkart has 39.5 percent market share in India's e-commerce industry. Currently, Flipkart dominates the market in apparel sales and ranks alongside amazon in electronics and mobile sales. In June 2017, Flipkart was included in the MIT technology review's "world's 50 smartest companies of 2017" list.
