Try Hurst First was founded by Charles Wheeler in 1859 for a foundry concentrating on agricultural implement manufacture, servicing and repair for the Island’s booming farming industry. Try Hurst First began to expand from the 1960’s to 1997 running a further five stores Island wide in Ventnor, Ryde, Cowes, Freshwater & Shanklin that was down to the great leadership skills of Harry Chivers & Robin McLaughlin as Managing Directors, where their legacy continues, with all their stores still having a strong presence on the high street today. Though they have remained for an Ironmongers, the company has gradually expanded its product ranges over the years to follow the current trends, such as lighting, china, glass, housewares, gardening & outdoor living to name a few.
